School/Cultural Building Projects Greece May 2016

We have been involved in building two school/cultural buildings in the military/government run camps on this trip to Greece, our tools have been very useful!

As you can see from the photo’s they have a wooden construction with tarpaulin cover, with windows and doors. The first school (pictured below) was in a smaller camp which has since been evacuated but the school moved with the people.  It was a lovely camp, very calm and peaceful and Theo really enjoyed working there, the people were happy and helpful and the children wonderful.

The second building – only the frame is up in these pictures, more photo’s to come – is being constructed in the Cherso camp which is now home to almost 4000 people.  The weather is very hot and the team struggled working without shade.  This is a much more substantial building project.

In both of these projects we worked alongside a German NGO called IHA and we hope to collaborate further with them.  More photos to come…..!

The inside of the buildings are being “furnished” by another NGO called We Are Here – it is really wonderful to see this kind of collaboration between groups as so much more can be done if you use everyone’s individual strengths.

The children at both camps were fascinated by the work the teams were doing 🙂
