School at the Filoxenia Housing Project 🌟💜😍 ... See MoreSee Less

Organised by our partners at Save the Children Greece, the children at Filoxenia and neighbouring housing projects are attending from Monday to Friday classes in Greek, English and Numeracy as part of a programme to prepare them for the start of the new school year in September. The programme is not just to prepare them academically but also to get the new starters ready for the school day and environment. We hope that this will help our children who have already been going to school get a head start before September and for our new starters we hope that the summer programme will ease their transition into mainstream education.

Remember the Dubs Amendment? The bill passed to protect vulnerable unaccompanied children across Europe. On Tuesday, our legal action against the Amber Rudd is the last chance we have to reopen the Dubs Scheme. All we want is the Home Secretary to do her job properly, and consult local councils who have come forward to offer hundreds more places for refugee children across the country. If you believe we should offer refuge to those we have the capacity to help in the UK, please share this video.

There are 52 children living at Filoxenia International's housing project in Thessaloniki Northern Greece. 13 of whom are Primary School age and all but one are currently attending a local primary school a short walk away from their new homes. The children absolutely love their school and have been made to feel incredibly welcome. They are picked up and dropped off by the school bus, regularly go on trips with their classmates and are even supported with their Greek language by the beloved ‘kuria Maria’ who takes all the children from Filoxenia for special Greek beginners classes at the school. By going to this school the children are able to integrate into the local community, learn Greek, get out of the house and most importantly relax and make new friends! All this, and it costs €2 less than having a child in one of the crowded camps! We pay for all the costs for 10 apartments in this housing project, but need support to keep doing so.
